Susan's Sleep

2018

Life in suspense, waiting for news, hearing nothing. Susan's Sleep explores the collective trauma of my family during an event none of us anticipated. On December 25th 2016 our lives were put on hold. My mother was rushed to hospital and put onto a Non Invasive Ventilation System (NIV). Her body fought for breath while it resisted the NIV. Two days later she was put into a medically induced coma. Here she stayed for nearly a month in an isolated room on the Intensive Care Unit.

Through interviews, archival video, moving stills and ambient audio this project begins to revisit a time of limbo and isolation. Here I share the opening sequence to a personal short film.
